Richard worked for a number of years in residential social care, mostly supporting young adults who have a learning disability and/or autism. During that time, he was a Support Worker (days and nights), Team Leader, Deputy Manager and Registered Manager. He has achieved the Level 4 Registered Managers Award.

He became more involved in training and development and realised this was his passion; influencing new and experienced social care workers to help them develop the skills and confidence they need to make a real difference to the lives of the people they support. He has the Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) and is a member of the Society for Education & Training.

An opportunity arose to deliver training in the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards for a well-established training provider, CQM Learning Limited, who had won a tender for Sheffield City Council.

Richard worked for CQM for 14 years, delivering a wide range of face-to-face training courses for a number of local authorities and independent social care providers, all over England. During the lockdown, this moved to a virtual environment using Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams.

CQM Learning Limited ceased to trade in July 2023 and Richard started up as a sole trader a few days afterwards. He continues to provide training for some of CQM’s former clients.
